1. What is the APRS Weather Project?  The APRS weather system that is under development was origionally conceived as a way to measure remote wind speed on isolated property.  One thing lead to another and a complete system was conceived.  The weather system was designed from the ground up to be a low cost, low power system.
  2. What does the system Measure? The current system monitors the Temperature, Wind Speed and Wind Direction.  Additionally the system supply voltage is also measured and sent at the end of the APRS frame for battery operated systems.
  3. What additional Equipment do I need?  The PCB interfaces to the sensors and directly to the radio.  No TNC is required.   The minimum equipment that needs to added is the easy to build sensors (Watch for instructions on this site), Power supply (9-15V) and a 2m Radio.  On board power switching is avaiable for low power radios, such as an HT.
  4. Will I be able to add additional sensors?  Yes, there is an expansion connector on the board that will allow almost limitless sensor expansion.  I already have plans for Humidity and Barometric pressure.  Almost anyting is possible.
  5. When will I be able to get a kit?  Right now I am finalizing the firmware.  I will be ordering a quantity of the PCB's later this week.  To keep the cost down, this is the longest leadtime item, approx 4 weeks.
  6. Will I be able to add ready made sensors?  At this time, No sorry.  The idea as to create a very low cost system.  If there is demand I will develop a version using the 1-Wire sensors that are available.
  7. What Other sensors are available?  Right now I am planning a humidity and Barometric pressure upgrade board.  This will be supplied with an Updated processor.  The new unit will replace the Temperature module inside the Stevenson Screen.
